Corolla 50th Anniversary Edition!

The Toyota Corolla is one of the longest-running and most successful vehicles in automotive history.  This year Toyota proudly marks the model’s 50th anniversary, and is celebrating the milestone with the 2017 50th Anniversary Special Edition which was recently revealed at the 2016 New York Auto Show.corolla

The Corolla Special Edition is based on the latest Corolla SE and features 17-inch alloys in two-tone finish and LED headlamps. But most of the upgrades are found inside, including a seven-inch touchscreen, 4.2-inch instrument display, Entune Audio Plus, black upholstery with red trim, and all the special badges you could expect. Only 8,000 units will be made available in the US starting this fall.

Today, Toyota sells approximately 1.5 million Corollas globally a year and has continued to evolve over five decades. Its first version ushered in new technologies like the MacPherson strut suspension, a compact engine with a five-bearing crankshaft, two-speed wipers and back-up lights.   corollla2

Toyota produced the first Corolla in Japan back in 1966, and started importing them to the United States in 1968. Within two years it was the nation’s second best-selling import, reached 10 million units sold by 1983, and in 1997 became the best-selling automotive nameplate in the world.

If you are keen to get your hands on one of these limited edition Corollas, then we encourage you to call Toyota Bountiful today so we can help work some magic for you!

As always, we look forward to seeing you on our showroom floor soon!

Toyota – Truly Visionary

Toyota Bountiful is proud to inform you that our parent company is developing a wearable device to help give blind and visually impaired people greater mobility!

The gadget is worn on the shoulders and uses cameras to recognize surroundings, such as signs, then directs the wearer with speakers and vibration motors.   The device has been produced by developers working on Project Blaid. They said they were working on plans to introduce mapping, object identification and facial recognition technologies as well.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) called it an exciting development, and it comes after Microsoft said it had designed a headset that uses location and navigation data with a network of information beacons in urban locations to talk visually impaired people around cities.

Robin Spinks, senior strategy manager at the RNIB, said: “This is a very exciting development within the rapidly growing field of wearable assistive technology. Mobility is at the heart of so much in our society and a device like Blaid could open up limitless possibilities for millions of blind and partially sighted people.”

In an announcement made this week, Toyota said the device was not meant to replace those aids currently available to blind and visually impaired people, but to “help fill the gaps left by canes, dogs and basic GPS devices by providing users with more information about their surroundings”.

The video below will demonstrate how the device could be used to distinguish between one door marked gentlemen’s toilet and another marked exit.  Toyota said it was primarily intended to help users navigate indoors.

“Project Blaid is one example of how Toyota is leading the way to the future of mobility, when getting around will be about more than just cars,” said Toyota executive Simon Nagata. “We want to extend the freedom of mobility for all, no matter their circumstance, location or ability.”

Toyota Wins Daytona!

All of us here at Toyota Bountiful Camry are extremely proud of Denny Hamlin, as he came in first at Sunday’s Daytona 500!  Hamlin earned his first-career Daytona 500 victory and the first for Toyota in the prestigious event which is second to only the series championship, which Camry driver Kyle Busch won in 2015.daytona

Hamlin crossed the finish-line in his Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 FedEx Camry by 0.010-seconds ahead of fellow Camry driver and second-place finisher Martin Truex Jr., marking the closest finish in the 58-year history of the Daytona 500.

Camry drivers also claimed four of the top-five finishing positions with Busch (third) and Carl Edwards (fifth) also finishing behind Hamlin and Truex. In addition, Toyota drivers combined to lead 158 laps (of 200) to kick off the 2016 season.

“This is a team victory,” said Hamlin. “My teammates did an amazing job all day working together – all the Toyotas. This is a proud moment for everyone at Toyota. This wouldn’t be possible if this wasn’t Toyotas sticking together all race long. We were able to get up, capture our track position. This is amazing for Toyota.”denny

The 2016 season marks Toyota’s 10th season competing in the Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR’s top level, where Camry drivers have won 80 events since joining the series in 2007.  Last year, Busch won the first NSCS championship for the manufacturer and Toyota drivers won 14 races, tying the most by Camry racers in a single-season.

CH-R Heads to Geneva!

Toyota has officially confirmed earlier reports that the C-HR crossover will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March!  chr2

The C-HR is based on Toyota’s new TNGA modular architecture, which is described as an “integrated development program for vehicle platforms and powertrain components”.   This program was first used on the latest Prius.  The sporty crossover will make its debut in Europe this year and Toyota plans to introduce the C-HR in other markets in the near future.

“We are entering the C-segment crossover market with a fantastic product and with a hybrid powertrain from the start,” Johan van Zyl, Toyota Motor Europe president and CEO, said. At least for Europe, the company will build the production C-HR at its factory in Turkey.

Only minor tweaks were made between concept and production. The headlights now have sharper angles compared to the rounded units on the show car, and the front end gains an extra intake below the Toyota badge but above the lower fascia. The C-HR continues to have a floating roof, which to say the least looks incredibly awesome.chr

Details on the crossover’s powertrain are still in the dark, but the C-HR could come very well come with a hybrid powertrain at some point, as well as a number of conventional powertrains options.

The pictures included here are of the CH-R concept, but the production photos will soon be available for the world to feast their eyes upon.  We are told that the body style has not strayed too far away from the prototype, which is nice.
